Centene Plaza
Centene Plaza is the first class A office product brought to market in downtown Clayton, MO in just under a decade, and is the region’s first and only multi-tenant office that is Gold LEED certified. The development is a 17-story office tower with 485,000 square feet of office and retail space, a 972-space parking garage, and a public plaza destined to become central to Clayton’s active downtown. The building is 96% leased to companies such as managed care provider Centene Corporation and the area’s third largest law firm, Armstrong Teasdale.
The Koman Group partnered with Centene and Clayco, Inc., to develop the project, which features a 21,000 square foot green roof (the largest in St. Louis metro), low-E glazing for heat gain reduction, and access to two light rail stops to in part earn Gold LEED certification. The building and plaza are HOK-designed, and will feature striking artwork by Liam Gillick.
The Koman Group joined the project team in January 2009. Groundbreaking occurred in March, in advance of closing a seven-bank syndicated loan in June: a testament to the development team’s determination in uncertain economic times. Jason Braidwood, senior vice president of The Koman Group stated, “During what most regard as a financial crisis, we financed, constructed and nearly fully leased a landmark building in 15 months. This would not have been possible without the tremendous support of our city, county and state, and unwavering dedication from our partners at Centene and Clayco.”
