The Koman Group, under the management of William Koman, Sr., started as a builder of multi-family units on college campuses in the 60’s. From there, the scope of projects undertaken expanded to include development of grocery-anchored shopping centers, and office buildings constructed throughout the 70's and 80's.
The Koman family developed the Casino Queen project in East St. Louis in the early 1990’s, the first major development on the Illinois riverfront in more than 20 years. In addition, they have developed regional and corporate headquarters for Arch Coal, Maryland Casualty, Peabody Coal, Kroger and Microsoft among others.

Over the last 5-10 years, the focus has been on the CityPlace development: a mixed-use project located in the heart of St. Louis County. The CityPlace project has evolved from 400,000 sq ft on 16 acres to more than 1.5 million sq ft on approximately 40 acres. Currently 1,000,000 sq ft of existing space has been developed with another 350,000 sq ft currently under construction. There is an additional 300,000 sq ft of office and retail planned to be delivered in 2008.
